Called up for National Service in 1959 and found Northwich a very
different place when I came home on leave - the Morgue had been built in
my absence.
Penrhyn Arms to start with - a couple of rum and blacks for
dutch courage and then on to the Memorial Hall. "One and one to Barnton
please", at least I was sure of the bus fare home! I walked into the
main hall and didn't recognise anyone, all my old mates were either
courting or married but still have happy memories of Saturday night
gigs.
Also later happy memories of singing with the Northwich &
District Festival Choir under the direction of the late Cyril Dawes.
Hopefully whatever replaces the Hall will create as many good memories.
